Just like every teenager has, I have succumb to the popular culture of today's youth. Cultural characteristics like EDM (electronic dance music), conspiracy theories, and even playing video games have completely immersed my life. Out of all the popular culture I could talk about there is one that has completely consumed me; This major thing is cellphone use coupled with social media. Cellphone use has became such a huge part of my life that on my cellphone I check social medias the first thing when I wake up and the last thing I see before I fall asleep. Although I try to stay away from Twitter and Facebook for their corruption of personal information and obvious political bias, I have not been able to stay away from Snapchat and Instagram. Instagram is my favorite because of how you can connect with people all over the world and see through pictures and videos their perspectives on life, without all the distraction like Facebook has. The last major characteristic of today's culture the effects my is the fact that all information is within the distance of my pocket. When I reach into my pocket I can pull out my phone and by simply saying "Okay google, read me Article I of the articles of confederation." I can not inly see but hear the information with doing minimal to no work of my own.
In conclusion, Popular culture had affected me and my life tremendously both in a positive way as well as in a negative or neutral way by not requiring me to complete the tasks myself, and also by providing me with endless distractions through social media.
