Project 3

For the first genre I chose to make a Wix website. The reason for this choice was because the website allows everyone to view it due to its easy accessibility.

The second genre is an infographic! The infographic which adds color and visual stimulations to the project.

A video is my third genre. The video has a more serious tone than the other two. The reason I chose to do a video was because I can have both visuals as well as auditory information presented to the audience.

Report

Facebook Awareness

The name of my campaign is Facebook Awareness. The intention of the campaign I am conducting is to promote general awareness on the dangers of using Facebook. The intended audience of Facebook awareness campaign is teenagers who are at risk as well as anyone else who is interested with the knowledge of how the use of Facebook and other similar social media websites can cause detrimental development problems on teenagers. For my campaign I constructed four different genres. A genre is a category of artistic composition, as in music, that is characterized by similarities in form, style or subject matter. (Google) The first genre being the written report presented in project two. While the other three genres were created solely for project three. A Wix website is one of the genres that I chose to use. I chose the Wix website because not only was I already comfortable with the formatting but also because its appeal to my intended audience. The appeal from the Wix website came from how easy it is to use and access. Another genre I used was an Infographic. The infographic was also simple and easy to access. One benefit from the infographic was that it allowed me to communicate the same message as the Wix website, but through pictures. In the infographic the viewer sees a picture of the Facebook logo which is adjacent to a picture of the symbol for toxic and/or radioactive. There is a reason for the placement of the two pictures, and the reason is because even if a viewer takes a quick glance at the infographic they will have a predisposed mental image on what the project is about. The last genre I incorporated into this project is the video genre. In this three minute video genre I chose to make the point of creating the video with a more serious mood. The other two genres present the audience with facts and have fun colors which intend to entice the viewer into reading about the research, but instead for the video genre I chose to make it more solemn in order to provoke the viewer to feel more than just a simple interest, but instead to feel a passion, understanding, and empathy for those effected by the dangers that social media outlets such as Facebook can cause. In order to promote my research, I chose to use two separate rhetorical strategies. The first rhetorical strategy which I chose to use was in my infographic as well as my video was persuasion. The second way I got my research to my audience was through an exposition which in turn manifested into the Wix website. In the infographic, that I used Canva.com to create, I implemented rhetorical devices such as putting the word “Danger” at the top of the page in bold letters making it the first thing a viewer notices. This word then evokes an emotion from the viewer of curiosity. Another example of this same rhetorical device being used in which an emotion is provoked, can be seen in my video genre. The video genre which was created with iMovie and shown through YouTube starts off with sad music playing while the word “depression” appears on the screen. In the Wix website genre I created through the Wix website it is clear, that a slightly different rhetorical device is used. As soon as the viewer opens the website they are shown at the top of the page a question, a question that presents a logical and rational question which is intended to evoke a sense of questioning and argument from the viewer which in turn motivates them to continue reading the information presented on the website.

With my information set up and genres completed I needed a way to have these genres reach my intended audience. For the promotion of my research I had to find ways to post and draw attention to my genres by promoting them on several social media websites and also by following hundreds of people on those social media websites. One of the ways I promoted my research was to create a Facebook page. On this Facebook page I posted at least one thing every single day for seven days. One of the ways I tried to gain my Facebook page more attention from my intended audience was to follow a mass amount of people as well as filtering my friend search options to teenagers, and people who are interested in science. In doing this I saw an instant increase in views on my genres and Facebook page. Therefore, I believe that Facebook was the most effective avenue in attempting to reach more people with the research that I found. One of the troubles I ran into was that even after I gained in increase in views to my Facebook page there were some people who would view the Facebook page but not visit my genres or would view one genre but not all three. To solve this, I decided to make each post I put out sound more interesting and exciting. I did this by using exclamation marks as well as using an uppity and joyful tone in my captions.

For the compositional process of this project, it was slightly different from that of project two. One of the ways they differ is because in project two I had to conduct research and verify every source as well as explain how they are qualified to answer the question at hand. In project three I already had all the research at hand from the previous and was therefore able to include more intriguing rhetorical devices instead of the research being formal. Some of the things I had to consider in project three that I did not have to in project two would be having to make sure that project three used all of my resources such as the YouTube video, the Wix website, and the infographic. I had to make sure to incorporate all of project two into my project three and that caused me to cross reference all of my information between the projects. The most challenging part of creating project three would have to be making sure to incorporate everything while also making sure not to be too repetitive. In my opinion, the only thing I could do to make these two projects easier would be to make sure do all of my research before creating the project instead of doing the research as I was doing the project; this would help me understand more of the topic so that I can do better in more of the papers, and the different aspects of each project.
